I am excited to be joining the Brandon Area Psychological Association group of therapists. I moved to the Brandon area in 2014 due to my spouse’s military assignment. We fell in love with the community and chose to stay once my husband retired. I have two adult daughters, one granddaughter and a very energetic toddler. My family enjoys traveling and we have visited many parts of the world. You can also find us at Disney World several times a month.

I have been working as an addiction counselor and mental health therapist for the past 15 years. I am currently licensed in the state of Florida as a marriage and family therapist and certified addiction professional. I am also certified through the Department of Transportation to complete SAP assessments. I am also a certified supervisor for both LMHC and LMFT interns earning their licensure hours.

I obtained my BA in Psychology at California State University, Bakersfield. Subsequently, I completed both a Master’s Degree in Counseling and a Certified Addiction Professional program at University of San Diego and the University of Phoenix, San Diego campus in 2005. My internship began at Mental Health Systems, Inc in San Diego, Ca. focusing on addition and mental health issues. I completed my internship hours at Newport County Community Mental Health Center in Middletown, RI where I was employed as a Program Manager for an outpatient case management program and worked as an outpatient therapist. During my time in Rhode Island, I also worked with the local hospital emergency room to complete involuntary certifications for children and teenagers as well as served as a crisis counselor for the local after-hours crisis line.

I believe that every individual has it within themselves to overcome most of their struggles, they just need some help. My job as a therapist is to foster this healing process. I will not tell you what you must do, but I will assist you in finding the solution for yourself. For individuals, I utilize CBT, DBT, mindfulness and solution-focused brief therapy techniques to help you meet your goals quickly, decrease time spent in therapy (versus more in-depth treatment methods), and ensure that you leave therapy with the tools you need to handle future problems effectively and independently. With couples, I focus less on what is wrong and more on what is right as well as teach couples the tools that make marriages last. We work on developing a sense of “we”, building friendship, restoring trust, strengthening love, and bringing back hope into marriage.

I have been a military spouse for over twenty years and have a lot of knowledge of the deployment process and the ways in which military life affects the whole family. I have a special interest in the military community and I am an in-network Tricare Provider as well as a Military One Source provider. I am also a provider for other insurance panels.
